Learning made better, life made easier.

We started Better Learning because we know how powerful learning can be when life feels complex or uncertain.

Our mission is simple: to empower individuals, teams, and leaders with accessible, evidence-informed learning tools that make life a little easier, help us overcome obstacles, and unlock the power that learning brings.

Meet our team.

David Shillington

Founder

I’m David Shillington, former professional rugby league player for the Roosters, Raiders, Titans, Queensland Maroons and the Australian Kangaroos. After retiring from a 16-year career in the NRL, I turned my focus to mental health education - working with the NRL to deliver wellbeing and domestic violence prevention programs across grassroots and regional communities.

I've always been passionate about developing people and creating impact beyond the field, and this work allowed me to connect deeply with communities doing it tough. It quickly became clear how many individuals, especially those facing long-term challenges, were missing out on meaningful support and connection.

  • This led me to become a Master Principal Instructor in Mental Health First Aid, delivering training to thousands of people in schools, workplaces and sporting clubs around Australia.

I now work alongside psychologists, clinicians, and former athletes to co-create relatable, human-centred programs that reduce stigma and spark open conversations—using lived experience as the bridge. We’ve found that even those who aren’t into sport still connect deeply with the honest stories behind it.

A key part of my mission is helping people understand that mental fitness isn’t just about health — it’s the foundation for performing at your best. Whether on the footy field or in everyday life, practical tools to manage stress, build resilience, and stay grounded can be game changers. When we equip people with the tools for life, we strengthen both their wellbeing and their potential.

In 2019, I launched Prime Effect to deliver mental health and job readiness programs for jobseekers. Today, I’m proud to collaborate with Better Learning: an accessible and engaging eLearning platform that encourages teams and individuals to improve their mental fitness. Together, we're using practical, evidence-based resources and workshops to help people navigate complexity, overcome challenges and drive personal growth across all facets of life
